It’s that time of year again – time to turn on the AC, clean off the BBQ grill and socialize outside with friends and family. That might mean a weekend at the lake, a trip to the beach or simply a Fourth of July party at the country club. If the thought of wearing a bathing suit in front of other people fills you with a little dread, you are not alone! The good news is that there is much more we can do about it today than in years past. With the opening of Personal Best MD, now TELOS Fitness Center is a one-stop-shop for almost every non-surgical option for fat reduction, cellulite treatment, sagging skin and stretch marks.
When a patient schedules a consultation with me, I start by listening. I want to understand my patient’s biggest concerns…even if that is something that other people think is silly. We all have our “trouble spots” and my goal is to make those trouble spots disappear. The fact is that even when someone makes a serious effort towards diet and exercise, we cannot target fat loss over one spot. Exercise won’t reverse stretch marks and once our skin stretches from weight gain then loses elasticity with age, no amount of exercise will tighten it up again.
Maybe your trouble spots are “love handles” on the sides or a “muffin top”. Maybe it’s a stubborn roll of fat above the bra by the shoulder blades. Perhaps you are thin but have sagging flesh above the knees or “flab” under the arms despite very toned muscles. Maybe you are built like a runway model, but those stretch marks from pregnancy are humiliating in a bikini. Perhaps you have noticed that even though you’re not “fat”, the surface of your thighs is no longer smooth and tight like it was in your 20’s. You may now have the tell-tale signs of cellulite that will not disappear if rubbed with special tools or kneaded by a technician. In fact, it could make the problem worse by breaking the connective tissue “tethers” that keep the overlying skin smooth and tight.
Whatever your goals and concerns are related to fat reduction and bathing suit season, schedule a consultation to talk with me! Let me be your guide to the most effective and safe technologies available today.
Come learn my secrets as I fine-tune my own physique with Coolsculpting, Kybella injections, cellulite treatment with physician-depth micro-needling and PRP, as well as L’Avantage machine for stretch marks. Gentleman, want six pack Abs? I can show you how. Why wait another day? I’m here to help you look and feel your very best.
Call (214)307-2985 to schedule a consultation today at the low price of $175, which applies towards the price of subsequent treatment. As a special bonus to those who buy four cycles Coolsculpting or four vials of Kybella, I will give an additional evaluation / consultation of your diet and exercise regimen so your trouble spots don’t stand a chance! Dr. Wendy is in your corner. Together, we’ve got this. Let’s make this summer our best bathing-suit season EVER!

Sodium: How Much Is Too Much?

Too high of a sodium intake has been associated with several negative health outcomes, particularly hypertension (high blood pressure), yet a consensus regarding appropriate intake is still up for debate amongst researchers and health care professionals. First, let’s distinguish the difference between sodium and salt, often used interchangeably.
Sodium is one of eight mineral electrolytes your body requires for numerous vital functions. Salt is a seasoning comprised of sodium and chloride. Your body’s sodium levels are regulated by your kidneys to large extent, but may be affected by dietary intake of salt and other sources of sodium.
The average American over the age of 18 consumes approximately 3,400 mg of sodium daily, with men generally higher than women. The recommended daily intake is 2,300 mg/day, the equivalent of about 1 teaspoon of table salt. Americans do not get the majority of their sodium from the salt shaker but rather from processed and restaurant food. The American Heart Association recommends those with hypertension reduce their sodium intake to 1,500 mg/day.
Sodium is added to foods for many purposes including:
- Curing meat
- Baking
- Thickening
- Moisture retention
- Flavor enhancement
- Preservative
Get in the habit of perusing the nutrition label on any packaged food. For a food to be labeled “low sodium”, it must contain less than 140 mg/serving. Restaurant food in general and fast food in particular is typically on the higher end in sodium. A cheeseburger and medium order of fries will deliver anywhere from 1,500-2,500 mg of sodium or basically your recommended daily intake in a single meal! Consult with a nutritionist, dietitian or your health care provider to determine an appropriate daily sodium intake.
